Small Trailers

Choosing a small trailer for your car can be difficult. There are a number of different manufacturers and some are better and more reputable than others. Manufacturers include Scamp Travel Trailers, Adventurer, Airstream, Aliner, Bigfoot, Camp-Inn, Aluma Trailers, CastleCraft, Harbor Freight, Little Guy and Dooit Activity Trailers.

The sheer number of companies that manufacture small trailers makes it very difficult to decide what who to buy a small trailer from. But the choice isn’t really that difficult. In fact it is only as difficult as you choose to make it. The very first thing that you should do is to decide what you plan to use your small trailer for. If you want to use it to sleep in when you go camping, you are going to have to choose a totally different trailer design than if you want to use it to haul your kayak.

Small Trailer Uses
There are a number of ways that a small trailer can be used.

The first way is for camping. Essentially, the trailer will be used as your sleeping quarters when you go camping. Obviously it will have room for a small mattress and also give you a little room for storing supplies. Unlike big trailers, small trailers will lack many amenities. You won’t find a kitchen or a bathroom in a small trailer, like you might find in a big trailer. You should expect to have a little room to sleep and just a littler room to store your gear.

The second use is for hauling gear. Small cars often lack room for items like bikes, kayaks or for hauling things like lumber. A small trailer can be designed to haul these types of gear. This will leave more room in your car for other important things like your clothes and even additional passengers. Sure you could put your gear on the roof, but I’m sure you’ve heard horror stories of people driving into a low ceiling parking garage with their ten thousand dollar carbon fiber road bike on the roof and you probably don’t want to be one of them. Using a travel trail eliminates this problem. And it’s also more aero dynamic. All of your gear rides in the slip stream behind your car and this will save you a lot of gas.

Why Small Trailers Are Better Than Big Cars

Sure you could get an enormous vehicle like an SUV, but chances are you won’t use it most of the time. During the week you probably don’t need all that storage capacity and so you end up driving around a massive vehicle that eats a lot of gas for no reason at all. This wastes a lot of money and is bad for the environment. With a small activity trailer you can have the same storage and hauling capacity but only when you need it. During the week you can drive a small fuel efficient car. But on the weekends when you go camping you can still take all the gear that you need to have a great outing.
